Hello I just got two whethered kid goats for first time 3 was ago. I noticed they were itching and found some lice and used the diatomaceous earth which worked. I know I have to keep working on it for 30 days. My question is about my goats nose I thought it was related to the lice some scabbing going on. But it still there after days without lice. I’m hoping and wondering is it maybe just the briar patches would foraging in briar patches all day cause scabby nose ? I do see a few thorns in there ears I usually pull out everyday for them. It’s still really cold here 29 lows so it’s like crusty looking I just feel really bag it looks chapped. does anyone know what it could be lice briars or something else ? Thanks

I would try to keep them away from the briers and see if it clears up. Also I'd use a mite and lice spray for the goats. DE actually doesn't work too well.

Oh i haven’t seen a louse on them all week and plan to do round two this wknd since the eggs hatch after 10 days . I’ve been spraying them with tea tree oil too. It’s just two goats so I figured the lice problem shouldn’t be that hard to eliminate at least I’m hoping lol. So I have been weaning them off free ranging and today they were not happy I’m down to one hour free range in briers - it’s going to rain a few days so I think this week I will do no briers at all so I’m really hoping by this wknd I see the scabs on nose clear up. It’ll make me feel better if I know that’s the cause and not something else. Thanks for response !!

You may be overthinking the problems. If it were me I would just get a can of louse powder and put it down the backbone and rub it in. For the nose I would spray it with BluKote. On the chance that it is due to a fungus, the BluKote will take care of it. Also helpful with other infections and minor irritations also.
