Scale legs on my hen

I can't really see up close but the scales dont look lifted or injured that i can see. My hens legs look crusty but i feel thats normal. If the scales lift up it would be definite sign of scaly legmites. You can Google images of chickens with it. They seem more puffy in my opinion. You could always oil their legs if you are super worried. I dont think it will bother them if they dont have it.
A couple of dry scales is no big deal...

But crusty legs is NOT normal! :old

Coach723. . .would this be along the lines you were talking about?
Yep. I usually use castor oil, I find it easier to use than vaseline or some of the other stuff and not quite as messy, but other things work too. I usually soak the legs, use a soft toothbrush to gently clean as well as you can, and apply the castor oil with the same brush, working it into the raised scales as much as possible. Reapply for two or three days running and then once a week until the scales start to look normal. If I get a case that is very stubborn I will use the gasoline dip, but the castor oil usually works fine. And the castor oil isn't going to hurt anything.

My rooster started hopping a few days ago! His left foot looks really swollen and I have doctored 3 x's with the NUstock. I can't tell if they look better or not! I think he has lost the end of his middle toe. I saw his feet were getting bad a few weeks and it took 2 weeks to get the Nustock. DE used to keep them clear. I put at least a cup full at the door of the coop so everybody walked through it! I am also using a few drops of Tea Tree oil in vegetable oil. I guess I am just venting!

Are you treating for mites or bumblefoot, or both? Can you post pictures of the feet/legs in question? DE isn't likely to work for leg mites, they are microscopic and burrow into the skin under the scales.
