Things like this make me scared to get quail!
Do only the males do this or do females do it as well?

Thanks. I'll have to keep a watchful eye on them when I get them.I never noticed a female do it. The recovery rate is excellent, as long as they still have at least one eye. Having lots of hiding places helps.
One of them wasn't very bad and I'm sure would've recovered but the other looked like he was gonna lose an eye plus the wound was oozing down his face. It was in an all boy pen so the girls were in their pens. I've got a ratio of 1:2, 2:2, 1:2, and 1:1 right now. I only ended up with 7 hens out of the hatch. I'm hoping to add a few hens from my most recent hatches. They can fully recover, sadly this happens fairly frequently with quail. Usually it is the hens. How is your ratio of males to females? Usually one male per pen seems to be enough.
