Scaly leg and bumble foot

Hi, I’ve put a rooster with scaly leg with hens that don’t have it should I take him out or not? Just wondering wether it’s contagious or not. How cut open bumble foot? Any advice would be appreciated.

Mites are contagious. They can crawl from the rooster onto your other birds.

To treat bumblefoot:

• Soak foot in Epsom salt bath until scab softens
• Put povidone iodine all over foot
• Remove scab from foot pad
• Squeeze out the pus plug
  • Enlarge hole with a scalpel if necessary
• Debride the cavity with a curette/tweezers
• Flush the cavity with Povidone Iodine
• Pack the wound with Neosporin
• Bandage foot with gauze and Vetwrap
