Hi, I’ve put a rooster with scaly leg with hens that don’t have it should I take him out or not? Just wondering wether it’s contagious or not. How cut open bumble foot? Any advice would be appreciated.:)

Mites are contagious. They can crawl from the rooster onto your other birds.

    To treat bumblefoot:
    • Soak foot in Epsom salt bath until scab softens
    • Put povidone iodine all over foot
    • Remove scab from foot pad
    • Squeeze out the pus plug
      • Enlarge hole with a scalpel if necessary
    • Debride the cavity with a curette/tweezers
    • Flush the cavity with Povidone Iodine
    • Pack the wound with Neosporin
    • Bandage foot with gauze and Vetwrap
