Hi, I believe my chickens might have scaly leg mites, their legs feel and look rough to me. If I rub downwards on their legs it feels quite smooth. but if I rub upwards it feels very rough, is this normal? If they do have scaly leg mites, it might be a small infestation. Can anyone share their thoughts on this thanks

OK so I coated their legs in petroleum jelly this evening. I just want to ask if they didn't have scaly leg mites, would this treatment be safe anyway? The picture is a photo of the flooring of their run. It is just plain soil and nothing else, Some soil sticks to their legs and im wondering if it will cause further infection because it might get under the scales.

It should be perfectly safe!!! I’ve put it on my chickens before along with a lot of other stuff and they scratch around in their run, free range, etc. and are fine. :)

Some does stick to the legs at first but it eventually dries off and fall off haha
