Hi all. I'm looking for some help. I'm very postive I have scaly leg mites on for sure one chicken but am unsure of my others. From all I've read if one has it I should treat all my others like they have it. I have 15 chickens, 2 ducks and a turkey.

Do I treat all of them?
Can the ducks get it?

The one method I've found that I'd like to use so I can just nip it in the butt involves gasoline and A&D ointment.

Has anyone used this method?

Our coop is an old dog kennel built into the back of our two car garage. Before it was our coop it was also storage for firewood. I'm unsure how to clean my coop because we still have a few tall stacks of firewood in there still. It's a substantial amount.

Any advice in the best way to clean my coop?

I can provide pictures of needed, I'm just really in need of some direction on how to deal with this. Thank you.

The treatment I know is 1 part kerosene to 2 parts linseed oil. Treat any using the building and paint some on the roost as well.

The best way to clean a coop is to muck out ALL bedding and vacuum up the cobwebs. Dust some 5% Sevin into all the nooks and crannies. Put down new clean bedding/shavings.

Skin mites are very persistent so the cleaner you get the housing the better.

I recommend just using it on the birds legs and the roost. I would use pyrethrum or some other benign insecticide on other parts of the coop.

Hi,
I've used Frontline (topical) on all mine now, cos nothing else worked for long, and Lydia 4+ getting crippled by it poor girl. Now.. She runs and jumps again. And happier/calmer. Now legs and feet smooth again. And yellow again, not grey. Used small dose originally but increased second time, with much better effect. Got Frontline for smallest dogs. All a bit haphazard, and was worried that might overdose, but they all ok and dramatic results over a month as scales renew. (I clean out henhouse weekly, use linseed oil , use poultry insecticide powder. ) If hadn't worked, I would have got inj ivermectin from vet. Withheld eggs for couple weeks.
