One of my hens has a pretty severe case of scaly leg, the first I've ever seen.

Questions:
1. Where do these mites come from and will treating her and disinfecting the coop get rid of them?
2. Can I treat this or does she need to see the vet?
3. Do the other birds need to be treated as well? So far they look fine. There are three hens, a pullet and a cockerel.

You can slather her legs, and all you other chickens legs in Vaseline, to smother the mites. You can spray the coop in diluted Permethrin, or a ready to use permethrin spray. The bottle will say how to use it. Can you post a picture of the mites. Good luck, Avery
