I have a 8'x8' chicken coop and 2 different chicken runs attached to it.
I got rid of all my chickens back in November or December 2024.
I had a problem with scaly legmites and I plan buying some ISA browns October 30th.
I cleaned the 8'x8' chicken coop out, sprayed it with flea killer and then put a bug bomb fogger in it.
There have not been chickens on my property since November or December of 2024 should I also spray the ground around the chicken coop before I get my ISA browns October 30th?
Can scaly legmites live without a host in the ground for 9 months?

They need a host to live so any that were in there before you bombed it either died or left.

If exposed to wild birds, they'll get them again though. I know from having silkies who free range where the wild birds do, wind up with them about every other year. We've treated them for it 3 times in 9 years now. We use diatomaceous earth once a month, and that keeps the regular mites and lice out, but once the scaly leg mites are in the scales of the chicken, it can't do anything for them.

Their life cycle is 14 to 21 days.
