Hello, pretty sure my chicken has scaly mites. The leg scales are definitely raised, I already had her quarantined for a different issue. I plan on dipping her in Epsom salt, then slathering some petroleum jelly on her legs. My question is... should I be doing anything with the coop? I've already mucked it out and I plan on checking my other birds to be sure none of them have it. But is there anything else I should be doing?

Busted...
Both Erza and my wyandotte Freya, have been calling my puppy pad covered shower stall home at night since beginning of February. Problem is, my landlord/roommate has noticed and kindly asked me to vacate the bathroom. Normally, no big, but they are now used to 69' F and its normally 30' F...
So, any suggestions on how to acclimate them to that kinda drop? I have a heat lamp and one of those chick warmer plates, If that helps.

Remember how I said I was applying petroleum jelly to the feet of my hens? Well... now they are covered in it! Does anyone know the best way to clean a bird covered in water resistant petroleum jelly? Would dawn soap work?

I had to give my roo a bath in Dawn dish soap. He was going nuts after a few days of the jelly all over his underside. Pulling at his feathers cause they were so greasy. Gave him a good blow out too! Now he’s fluff and fresh.

If you ever want to give it a try, Elector psp treats scaly leg mites with just one 10 minute soaking… no repeat since it kills both the mites and the eggs. This is an easy way to treat the whole flock. It’s definitely not cheap for the full size bottle but I bought a small dose bottle from the chicken chick website to treat my girls small case of lice. Sprayed them each down once and haven’t seen any lice again after 9 months.
