Scare of my life today..

Quote:
I read a good article in Countryside mag about a woman who digs a shallow pit and places pallets on top of them for the chickens to run under and to find shade and dusting spots in the summer.

I should probably do something of the sort so my chickens have places to hide....right now the only place they'd be able to go is inside their coop, but whatever it was that's scaring them could just follow them in. Glad all the birdies survived!

I have a 5 x 7 foot tractor I put the young ones in this winter but seemed to be loosing them anyway. One evening I found a chick under the 2 x 4 bottom and initially thought I may have crushed it when I moved it last. But after putting the other chicks into the coop I went back and found that it was missing its head. A hawk had been standing behind a windbreak board and snatching the chicks heads and pulling them under the 2 x 4. This didn't happen when I didn't have wheels on the thing.

I have also had a hawk attack a bird with me sitting on a log about 6 feet away. When they get hungry they take chances.
