Scarecrow Sprinkler

I'm looking for a way to keep my chickens from digging up my grass. I have an area where I don't mind if they dig and was trying to avoid fencing it in. Has anyone had any experience with the scarecrow sprinkler system?

I've never heard of it.

Does it turn on if they step on the grass???

I have one. I bought it years ago to prevent my pygmy goats from going in the garden. It worked great!
I used it again to keep neighbor chickens out of my yard. Worked great until they found a new way to come over.
Anyway, I love my scarecrow. Bought for $50 about 10 years ago.

It has an infrared sensor that activates the sprinkler when something comes near. Supposedly it works up to 35 feet. There are videos on youtube.
