Since I have a sprained ankle & cannot ride, the other night I took my horse for a walk to graze on my overgrown lawn.
Chickens were out pillaging my veggie garden and did not notice the approach of 1300# of horse.
When they did see him they spooked and flew - ok, maybe "flew" is too strong a word - over the short fence I have around the garden & ran back toward their coop.
All except my Delaware Salad who somehow got cut from the herd and wandered around bawking pitifully until I herded her back to the rest.
The next day I got 5 eggs, but one was a teeny pullet egg.
Noone has laid anything less than X-Large since last Fall.
I'm thinking the "oops" was Salad's & her stressful adventure made her lay the small egg.
Can that happen?
Or is it just normal thing that can & will happen every now & then?
