2 hens isn't enough! If something happens to one of them, the other will be lonely. Buy at least 6.

sorry , but that will triple in no time . We started off with 1 hen that was roosting in a tree and laying eggs under the tree . DH went to feedstore to buy feed and returned with 30 baby chicks , well needless to say , we are now the proud owners of close to 100 head . 2 coops and 3 runs all enclosed ..... WE LOVE OUR CHICKENS and so will you .

Yes go for them.

Lice and mites easy to keep off the chickens.

The lice are feacher lice, so unless you have feathers they would not stay on you or harm you.

Those people that grow feathers will need to worry!!!!!!!

I hesitated for two years! For a while I even talked myself out of it. Finally, I realized that I had wanted chickens for so long that I owed it to myself to at least try it. We love our babies. I ordered seven, thinking that one or two wouldn't survive. HA! We still have seven several months later and they all look wonderfully healthy. Easiest pet I ever had. Just make sure you do deep litter inside the coop and sand in the run. So easy to keep clean.

Chickens are easier to take care of than alot of more common pets.

My chickens take more time on a daily basis than do my cats, but they are WAY easier, friendlier, and - to be honest - more fun!

I mean seriously, when was the last time you saw a cat go crazy over a worm?

The only mite problem I've had has been with my banty cochin. She's very little and her feathers on the legs and abdomen are constantly damp from dragging in the mud that's a winter mainstay here in the Pacific Northwest. None of my standards have had the problems with mites that the banty has had.

hey, we're in the humid, hot deep south-& we have never had a problem w/mites;lice, etc. just treat your chickens as you would any other pet & you'll be fine.
