Hi, my name is Alisha, I live in Friendsville, TN. I am semi new to raising chickens, but my husband is very experienced. I am trying to gain all the knowledge I can. Until recently, okay presently also, but not as bad, I have always been terrified of any bird. When my husband first brought chicks home I was very nervous in handling them, especially as they grew. So once there feathers came in our the door they went, all of our birds are free range. I was at my 4th round of chicks we got from Royal King and for some reason I became very attached and so did they there is 1 Turkey, 1 solid red( I'm not sure on her breed), 2 huge hens (I call them "waddles" because of the hilarious way that the run , but also not sure on breed) and then of course I have 20 hens and 10 roosters. Anyways back to the attached hens, they literally follow me everywhere, the second I walk out the door every morning they are at my feet, so I've kind of relaxed my fear a bit. The other hens and roosters I still am a little scared, but hopefully with time and lots of advice I will be more comfortable with them. I hope that everyone here can fill me up with tons of knowledge and advice and well personal experiences.

(1) Are you new to chickens / when did you first get chickens? Semi new, my husband is very experienced but he works so much I hate bothering him with my millions of questions.

(2) How many chickens do you have right now?
Close to 60
(3) What breeds do you have?
All different breeds
(4) What are your favorite aspects of raising backyard chickens? I really enjoy how some of my hens and 1 rooster follow me everywhere, probably because after I put there water and feed out I walk around and find them bugs.

(5) What are some of your other hobbies? I have a farm with 1 horse 40 head of cattle, 10 pigs, 4 ducks, a bunch of goats and chickens. So my hobbies are mostly farm chores and getting to know different animals

(6) Tell us about your family, your other pets, your occupation, or anything else you'd like to share.
I have some barn cats, and 2 dogs my Texas Heeler ( half blue heeler and half Australian shepherd) his name is Danger and my German Shepherd her name is Remmie and I have 5 kids 22,17,15,14 and 10. My husband also he works most of the time so the responsibility of the farm rest soley on me.
(7) Bonus: How did you find BYC, how long have you known about BYC, and what made you finally join our awesome community? :D I just came across it googling about my hen that died.

Well the best way to get over your fear is to confront it so good for you! Have you tried feeding them treats out of your hand? They will inevitably give your hand an overenthusiastic peck and you will realize its nothing to fear. Roosters on the other hand...well..that's not my department

No I haven't tried that but I definitely will be in the morning. Thank you
