Their major downfall is the lack of food, but they do have the space to correct that if they desired to do so.

Huh, we've got food. Heck, there are Texans here who are paid not to grow food. Cow, chickens, goats, jackalopes, plus we have all kinds of crops.

Texas would be completely fine if there was a succession. However.. I don't think it's anything to worry about...

Me thinks thou art correct. I love the USA and dont want to part with it, however, should things get really stupid like they are kinda shaping up to do, I wouldnt take it off the table either. Heck, we could re-elect ole George

Texas has the food production, and is generally in the top 10 nationally in all catagories of food production. The big issue would be the water treaties along the Rio Grande and the allocations due the US and Mexico.
Water is the bigger issue than food. Without water there will be no crops. If it were to secede, I seriously doubt current water treaties would hold.
I agree that it will not happen. Most Americans would not want to give up their American status if they really thought about what it meant anyway. Social Security, legal rights, the ability to travel within the US, etc.
