SCARY !!

Yes, Conny that was the kid, you're right, he was 10 not 8. We were at the park a couple of days after it happened. The warning signs were EVERYWHERE!

in Florida there is a gator in virtual every freshwater lake.

Or backyard.

Several years ago my sister called me hysterical...all I could get from her was BIG ... HUGE ...Eating My Cat... Big Gun...Get Here

so I grabbed a rifle and drove like a demon to her house. She had an 8 footer get into her screen florida room and it could not get back out...the tail was tearing the porch apart. Poor cat was hanging onto a piece of screen near the ceiling freaking out.

After I stopped laughing, I called Fish and Game and they came and took big boy away. but it demolished her porch/florida room.

That is why I never go swimming in the ocean or a lake. I live on Ocean Beach and Mission Beach in San Diego for 10 years, and never went into the water. When my son goes to see his dad, I beg him not to get into the water and surf.

I TOTALLY agree with everything you said except for the last sentence....... "more people die each year from STUPIDITY then from animal attacks".

true . My DH pulled a baby gator out of ex-FIL pool. THe gatorhead was mounted is now called Fred and is in my DH's office.

We are so spoiled to have the Great Lakes to play in here in Michigan... All freshwater, beautiful beaches, and nothing scarier than a pike.

(Speaking of which, I can't wait to go camping this summer!!)

We saw a barracuda once when we were snorkeling off St. Thomas, but I haven't seen a shark yet in the wild -- and I hope I never do. Scary!

When I was on my qualifying fresh water dive at 'Cooter Browns' in Florida the dive instructor said there weren't any alligators in that lake. When we surfaced what did we see cruising across the lake about 25 yards away........ YEP A DUCK! No seriously it was a 5' gator.

As far as the ocean goes? I'll do open water dives all day long, but after years of surf fishing and seeing what's in the surf zones while diving well it's not my favorite place to go....

In this case we also have a rarely seen creature in Florida . The skunk ape.
