I can't even imagine what that's like. We're surrounded by large live oaks and pine trees. I hate the pine needles, but love the shade in the sweltering summer heat.Single stem apart from the double leader close to the top. It's a tree
BIg trees aren't much of a thing here because of the wind.
"Sweltering summer heat" here is the high 60s in F, and the sea is never far away when it gets that hot.I can't even imagine what that's like. We're surrounded by large live oaks and pine trees. I hate the pine needles, but love the shade in the sweltering summer heat.

The only thing I don't like is how difficult it is to grow fruit trees (small trained forms will survive but forget about large standards in anything but the most sheltered of spots) or get hold of woodchip.
Looks like a fir of some type. Is that on a Christmas tree farm?
It's the back strip of field next to the plot where my chickens live. There's a couple of trees that were planted there at least a few years ago, probably either as potted trees that got planted after that year's Christmas was over or as the tiny bare-rooted live trees a local shop sells a lot of. I'll be planting more this winter - with the long grass allowed to grow up into their lower branches they make good shelter spots for chickens:Looks like a fir of some type.
