Scented Candles & Chickens?

There are a lot of things that are dangerous to our inside animals that we never think about. We have a parrot - it is so hard to find anything that isn't teflon. We do have some items with teflon but try to not let it overheat.

Our vet warned us about PineSol but I've never noticed any problems with it around our cats. With a houseful of animals we know it smells. I researched and discovered that Frebreze is ok around animals. I also use scented candles and haven't noticed any problems wit the bird. Maybe it is because we live in an old drafty house and whatever poisonous fumes gets circulated elsewhere.

It depends on the candle. There are lots of candles made with toxic chemicals.
I am an independent distributor for a soy/vegetable wax candle. It is non-toxic and bio-degradable. There are lots of exotic bird owners who burn these candles with no problems to their birds. You can read more about them on my company website.

well since we have a candle expert on here, what scent helps put a hen in the MOOD???? And should we provide extra lighting in the winter months or will the candle do the trick???

hi ole crone,
can you direct me towards the research you did on febreeze? all the bird people i know and all the info i've found on it says it is unsafe for bird respitroy systems.
thanks!

Glad I read this post thought you were selling candles that smelled like chickens and was wondering fried chicken? burning feathers? or plain old chicken stuff smell. Dont know what effect scented candles would have on chickens though. Are you trying to get your chickens in the mood or just trying to cover up that chicken smell??

A hen really likes the smell of a clean rooster, so just go out and bathe every rooster with a nice citrus scented shampoo, blow dry him, brush his feathers all out nice & neat, slick up his comb and wattles with oil. Don't forget his legs too, and clean his toenails!
