So I have this idea but I am not sure how chicken safe it is.. As a way to give the coop a cleaner odor and a better floor overall in the coop I was thinking to spread out some of a cat litter bag that we have , thoughts on this? I was also thinking to use it as an ingredient in a dust bath bin or tire, needing thoughts on this for both locations, thank you!

I wondered about the scented pieces in the litter first which is what promted me too ask on here before I jumped the gun and used it. What is a better. Solution for odor control ? And dust bath ingredients , I know when they can get out to free range they enjoy the dirt under the playground slide but it would be nice to have an option in the coop or chicken yard to give them.

Thanks! Is that something I will likely have to acuire at a farm store? Or I am sure online somewhere has it too?

I would have to agree cat litter even unscented would be a bad idea. I could see my hens trying to eat it like feed. I’ve been hearing a lot about this PDZ But I haven’t looked too much into it to know much about it but I know I do see it at my local homesteading stores And I’ve heard they have it at tractor supply also. If not you can buy just about anything online

Maybe you know the answer to the question I have because I can’t seem to find what’s actually in it. Of course I am terrible at researching things through phone. But it’s my only source of Internet. No Internet where I live. My question is would it be OK to use if I compost the chicken Pooh for my garden. I don’t use any chemicals in my garden and was wondering about PDZ. At this point I have no ofor problems with my chicken coop or run but we are adding 10 more birds this year so I may run into the problem

PDZ is fine for the compost ...
Sweet PDZ has been keeping horse stalls ammonia free and healthy for nearly 33 years; however, ammonia is ammonia regardless of the species producing it. Therefore it will do the same great job in your chicken coops and houses.

Safeguards flock health by neutralizing and eliminating harmful levels of ammonia and odors

Safe and effective moisture absorption

All-natural, non toxic, premium grade zeolite mineral

Contains no masking scents or chemical perfumes

Safe and beneficial to dispose with waste on compost and gardens

PDZ is definitely the way to go. Work great to zap the moisture out of the poop. We use a wire mesh letter tray from Wal-Mart to sift out the poops and a piece of wood with a couple screws in the edgeset at 1/2" to screed it back out. 1/2" is really all you need. We change it out once a year or so. Readily available at Tractor Supply etc...
