School Hatching Eggs!Help!

i guess so all seems well and good and itll be easier to watch it at home. So what are you gonna do after they hatch.

I'm gonna bring the chicks back to the classroom and let the kids see them. After that I will either see if the lady I got the eggs from wants the chicks back, or give them to my brother-in-law. Maybe I'll keep a couple for our house. lol Of course that is assuming that I didn't kill them during the course of the day.

I hope you know how to handle chicks, they have VERY brittle bones and need to be kept warm.

Oh yes, I have lots of experience with chicks and chickens, just not incubating the eggs. We have 8 hens at my in-laws place that I raised from babies...I just bought them as day old chicks. We have had them for about 5 years. They don't lay hardly at all and we dont eat their eggs anymore. They have become pets lol. I have already shown my students the proper way to handle chicks. We have even practiced with a stuffed animal. It's amazing how much my first graders can tell you about them and how they develop. We went to the farm yesterday for a field trip and the farmer was so impressed with the extent of their knowledge on egg development. They have loved learning about them and are very concerned that I have made a good place for them when they hatch. They even told me that I should make sure our a/c isnt on so high so that they won't get cold. My husband built me a great brooding box that will be perfect for them. Today is day 20 so I'm hoping to see some rocking and pipping soon!

ok, i was just making sure

Thanks for looking out for the chicks! I know with all my questions I must sound like I have no idea what I'm doing! I think I do better once they are out if the egg. Lol. But if all of mine hatch that will be 10 out of 13 fertile eggs. That's pretty good right?

I have one chick out. Hatched this morning around 6:30 am. It was slow getting strength though. He's still wet so I haven't taken him out yet. I had another die during hatching. As for the rest of the eggs I don't know what is happening with them. No pips from them yet and last time I saw anyone moving was around 2 am this morning. I hope they are just late....its day 22 already. When should I candle them to see if they are still alive?

I'd give it some more time. Can you do it real quick?

I have 4 IB's about to hatch - the breeder told me they were 5 days along when in fact they were more like 15 days. And I have been handling, candling and rotating them religiously since I put them in only 6 days ago. I have 2 rolling and tapping and cheeping in there def ready to come out. Have you tried shining a torch on them through the viewer if possible? Mine seem to react to it! My point was though, that everyone says don't touch them at this point however mine don't appear to have been troubled by it - BUT technically they haven't hatched yet either!! If you do make sure not to turn them round/upside down, you might shift the beak.
