my only problem with the preppers was Nat Geo channel having a bunch of back to back shows for 2 days before and a marathon on Dec 21, 2012 as if they had nothing better to do but give people something to be nervous about.

Or New Jersey or New Orleans. The government is slightly faster than a land snail, the three toed sloth and cold molasses. But that is open for debate.

While I am no prepper but prepare to a degree for any regular events but should "you know what hits the fan", my family and I will survive. Without assistance.

This is my thinking- it's in are CONSTITUTION that we have the right to bare arms.... It's also says it shall not be INFRINGED an today people think that the definition of INFRINGED has changed to -- not what are BRILLIANT fore fathers meant. It's been stated that we the people don't NEED guns... Well let me tell you something- if a HEAVILY armored police officers were in front of all schools then if crazy came there would be the some one to stop it. Now there is an old saying that my father used to tell me " NEVER give up FREEDOM for Safety. Because when you do that it's a GUARANTEE that the "safety" is a LIE an FREEDOM is the only safe thing out there.

In 2002 the Secret Service released a study done on 37 school shootings. In the overview of the study, they found ten key things to the shootings.

• Incidents of targeted violence at school were rarely sudden, impulsive acts.
• Prior to most incidents, other people knew about the attacker's idea and/or plan to attack.
• Most attackers did not threaten their targets directly prior to advancing the attack.
• There is no accurate or useful profile of students who engaged in targeted school violence.
• Most attackers engaged in some behavior prior to the incident that caused others concern or indicated a need for help.
• Most attackers had difficulty coping with significant losses or personal failures. Moreover, many had considered or attempted suicide.
• Many attackers felt bullied, persecuted, or injured by others prior to the attack.
• Most attackers had access to and had used weapons prior to the attack.
• In many cases, other students were involved in some capacity.
• Despite prompt law enforcement responses, most shooting incidents were stopped by means other than law enforcement intervention.

I don't think I have seen any of this brought up in gun control debates. I hardly ever see anything about our lacking mental health system leaving many unstable people unchecked. Practically unheard of is the idea that the individual who commit the crime should be held accountable first and foremost. Almost certainly, you won't hear about the potential accountability of people who knew of the plan before it went into action.

I don't agree with knee-jerk legislation. It's too easy to pass terrible, and many times useless, laws on the back of emotional uproar.
