School uniform skirt length? Rant

I went to a Catholic grade school in the 1970s
We girls wore uniform's. Jumpers until the 7th grade then skirts made of the same hideous green plaid the last two years.

Both the jumpers and skirts were to hit just "at" or below the knee.
If it was anything more than an inch ABOVE knee height the teachers would bring you to the principals office and home you would go.

Now my question.

When did this change?!?!

I was out the other morning with my daughter before school and saw some girls from the local Catholic school walking to school. Busing is becoming nearly non existent here for everyone it seems.

The skirts were WAY above knee height! I am talking mini skirts!! Maybe cheerleader skirt length. But SHORT. Mid thigh!!!! Too short IMHO for any preteen/teen to be wearing. I am talking hooker or stripper short.
Now. I mentioned this to my dh who said. "Well maybe it was just those girls. You know how kids are. They leave the house dressed appropriately and then change the clothes or "look" of the clothes when they are out of moms or dads view."
I thought sure. Guess it could be that. But geezus! I know we live in the city, but hoocheying up a Catholic uniform to go to school? OMG!

Then. I was on my way to the doctors yesterday morning and had to stop at the light by the Catholic school. Gave me a view of the drop off/pick up line.

Not ONE girl getting out of a car or walking onto the grounds had a skirt longer than those girls I had seen the other morning! NOT ONE!
And this is at a GRADE SCHOOL. Even the smaller kids(1st graders) had skirts that were just too short!

And here I thought that the public schools had dress code issues!
I nearly died.
And the heavy girls. Poor things. The skirts were riding up in the back so badly. One girl was walking holding her skirt down in the back with one hand. IMHO it is just SO NOT APPROPRIATE dress for any school to be ok with. Never mind a Catholic one!

And then parents, city officials and school board members get upset when they read the statistics for the city. Teen pregnancy is higher here than other cities in the area.
"Sex without consent"(what they are calling it to make it not as ugly) is more common among the kids here. According to a survey the school dept itself gave the middle schoolers up to high schoolers. And that didnt include the Catholic/private schools!

The nuns running good ole Saint Joe's would have beat us with those rulers if we dressed like Brittney Spears in the classrooms. Go into church dressed like that? Oh NO.


Is this just the Catholic school where I live that as done away with appropriate skirt length? Or is this a nationwide trend????

I am going to be asking my mom if my old grade school or the Catholic HS my sister attended has changed the hemlines as well

It's just wrong and sick.
I dont even let my dd wear the knee highs my MIL got her with a skirt since I think it is too slutty a look for a KG.

And I am in no way a prude!

It is no way just that school. When I was in school the Catholic school by us was the same way, also they had a larger drug problem with that school than any other. It makes no since at all. I would never have my kids dress like that. I would have to unhem the seams.

I am 26 and I was in Catholic school from 5 to 8 and the skanky girls would always roll their skirts up to nothing. I don't think there is anything wrong with shortning it a little, I am 5 3 and had to roll it up about five times just to get it a little above my knee!

But some girls take it way to far, little chearleader skirt short. I have always heard that catholic school girls are the worst. When I was in 7th grade, a girl in my class got pregnant. All the girls in the class were stuck up and cruel. My only friends were boys

They were all nice to me. Probably because I wasn't trying my hardest to get them to be attracted to me. I don't know what is up with sexuality at such young ages. Young girls get crushes, but they are inocent, not sexual. I never got those feelings until years later. But now kids are starting to have sex in middle school. It's very sad. I guess parents don't feel like doing their job anymore =/

My DD has to wear uniforms(ohio) but she prefers wearing pants. I have seen kids go to school in too small/short skirts and dresses too. But with this girl i think she had to because she came from a very poor family who didnt ave the means to buy school clothes, or maybe they just didnt care. Around here they are just glad the kids have school clothes at all.
Anyways when my DD doesnt wear pants she wears skorts or a dress with color matched stretch shorts under it . At home she immidiatly changes into her fav. sweatpants and shirt.
