Our little cross beak Nutmeg is almost 16 weeks old. She “threw up” on me tonite. From research, I know chickens don’t actually throw up but she has difficulty eating anyway and we are concerned about this new problem. The chickens free range in an enclosed pen and have access to the run as well. She eats from a deep feeder and is still on baby chicken feed. We go out there three or four times a day to make sure that her food is deep enough and accessible for her to be able to scoop it up. She can’t eat grass or even the treats that we set out. She is strictly on the chick feeder food. Nevertheless, she is smaller than our other chickens and we keep an eye on her and try to make sure that she has enough food. She gets very stressed if we pick her up so I don’t do that a lot so when I did that tonight and she threw up it concerned me. I know that there could be a chance of crop impaction so I’ll check her in the morning but it’s hard not to worry about her because she has such a problem eating anyway. Is there anything I need to watch with her? Is there anything I could do differently? I have tried giving her mash or yogurt and she really won’t eat that. She just wants to eat her chick feed. I have not tried separating her and putting her in a different spot to feed her. I think that would stress her out even more.

Please do check her crop first thing in the morning and let us know if it's emptied. If handling her is stressful, just the struggle from that may have cause some of the contents of the crop to spill out. Let's see how she is in the morning.
If it's not, then treating the crop would be important.
