Scoop for sand bedding

Hello,
Questions for the sandy coop people. What size holes or spacing does the sand scoop need to have?

Heard from chicken chik 1/2" is too much. Thinking .25" would be better. I am going to weld up my own heavy duty scoop. Plan is to drill a bunch of small holes in it for the sand to fall through. But the poop stays in shovel.

Also, same question but for baby chicks? Their poop is smaller(ish)

Way smaller...like 1/16 to 3/32 ".......depends on how much you want back into the sand.
I use a mesh office organizer basket on my poop boards.
