I know we have racoons but the entire time I've lived here (many years) the only evidence I have found of animals getting into my backyard was opposums. Before I had birds outside, we had two big dogs in our back yard. We woke up on two seperate occassions(years apart) and seen them dead and half eaten from our dogs. I know there are critters out there, but as far as them in my yard (fenced in portion), I've not seen any evidence. But I will err on the side of caution if someone could show me a pic of what you guys are talking about. Then I will have an idea on how to do it. I'm new and still learning

Yes I think its just a matter of time, unless you dog or something to alway there to keep them out. I also think the soild side help,as the birds , will not sleep next tp the wire sides, I have lost chickens that roosted , next to wire side runs now that was 2x4 wire , they just reach in and grab a bird.

But the main thing if that floor, darn coon ,gets under there , and grabs toes. Lots better lookin ones where they have a drop pan to pull out which would work ,if locked so racoon can't pull them out........I'M just little LAZY and don't want to clean drop pans all the time...

I was already trying to figure out how to add the poop pan along with the wire. My DH is pretty creative so I bet he can help.

I live in the heart of coon-ville, possum-ville, and coyote-ville.....and have killed several possums aound my pens only because they are kinda slow at the survival thing. I know the coons have visited the pen area too, but all of my pens are at least 30" off the ground, and have 1/2" hardware cloth....but have not had signs of leg-snatchin' so far. I guess I'm wondering if they are coordinated/agile enough to crawl up a leg of the pen, and still reach through to get a foot??

YES THEY ARE... GOT PENS 3 1/2 - 4 FT OFF THE GROUND AND HAD TO FENCE THEM FOR JUST THIS REASON... OH AND THE MORE RARE EXOTIC AND EXPENSIVE THE BIRD... THE HIGHER UP ON THE COONS MENU. SEEMS THEY LIKE RARE AND EXPENSIVE STUFF BEST

That pen in the pic. 24in....very pen they took the legs off the white bobs. I also have tons of racoon, kill 26 this fall all up around the pens ,all traped and fed lead
