Scot's Dumpy Scots Grey??

Received my Scots Dumpy chicks from Sandhill this morning. Got a total of 17 & the "worthy breed" that accompanied them was 10 Icelandics. I'm not too thrilled about the Icelandics but someone may want them when they're grown out.
All 27 chicks were healthy & alert. They went right to eating & drinking as soon as they went in the brooder.
Assuming they colour sex like other Cuckoo breeds it looks like I have at least 10 pullets.

I do not raise Scots Greys but I want to. I am not awear of any in the U.S.. There are some in Canada but how would you get them into the US?

How did the chicks turn out? Would love to see some pics. Oddly, I would jump on the Scots Dumpies if I new they would be accompanied by the Icelandic chicks.
But also thinking about Basque Hens and/or Swedish Flower Hen from GreenFire.
Hard to choose (and I am still trying to get my coop built!)

I ended up only keeping 0ne pair out of the 17 chicks as they were the only short legged ones. Didn't lose any chicks along the way. The pullet I kept is a dependable every other day layer. So far no fertility but I'm hoping that will change when the weather warms. If not I'll try AI. Picking one of these birds up is innteresting. Their short legs make them appear smaller than they really are. When you pick one up the weight is surprising.
I'll try to get some pictures up soon.

ps-I gave the Icelandics away.

Thanks for the update. Would love to see pics. BTW, I think if you cross short legs with long legs in the dumpy, I think you should still get 50% short (and 50% long.) Short X short would still be 50% short, 25% long and 25% dead in shell. So very odd that you ended up with so few short legged dumpies in your order.

I have just placed my order -- sent in my order for the Scots Dumpies. Looks like they are sold out until 24July (and there are only 2 hatches after that) so don't know if I will get my order this year.

You weren't impressed with the Icelandic chicks, eh? They are VERY popular (they are sold out though August), so it will be fun to see what I get as the 2nd breed. I am excited by the Dumpies. I do hope I get them this year.

Know what you mean by the surprising size. I have a Bassett mix dog -- his short little legs may make him look petite, but he is not dainty -- definitely a full-bodied dog on stumpy little legs.

I have been looking all over the net for the Dumpies wattling! There are some "videos" of Scots Dumpies on Youtube, eating porridge, etc.

Best of luck with your chickens and I look forward to seeing your pictures!

Are the Scots Dumpy and the Scots Grey one and the same? And where did you get your Scots Dumpies from? They are so beautiful. Would love some when I get chickens again.

I breed the Scots dumpy chickens here in the US, in Texas. I am successfully hatching chicks monthly and will be selling soon. Chicks will not be shipped any younger than 4 weeks old for a higher survival. I am not a large hatchery, but will continue to breed my Scots as I have seen a large demand for them in the US.
