Scovies in Blue...mostly! (PIC Heavy)

I tried to take a picture when I got home tonight, but she was too busy bobbing her head for dinner to cooperate.

I'll try again tomorrow. She's mostly black with a patch of white on her neck and some white speckling starting on her head that's probably going to spread. Like you just described, she has barring on her chest and belly. The main difference I noticed between her and your ducks, though, was that the barring on the edges of her feathers is a warm brown color instead of gray. Or is that just the joys of different monitor screens making it look gray to me?

O.K. That isn't really barring on her then. That is just her juvenile feathering which will molt out black. Barred ducklings start out all yellow w/grey bill and a small color barr across the tip of their tail indicating the color they will feather out to. As they begin to feathe they become barred or striped, if you will, with the color they will be changing to striped along w/yellow white down. Let me post a pic.
Two of last years barred.

Your ducks are beautiful!!!

I have two Mom's out there now with 10 babies each, plus 3 more in the brooder that I incubated in my 'bator.

We had mostly black and whites hatch, but I have a few that I'm not sure what color they will be. A couple look like a light silvery/cinnamon color and we have 4 red and whites.

I have 3 blues that are 1 month old. My adults are 1 black and white drake, 2 Black and white ducks, and 1 blue and white duck.

Cool stuff, thanks for the info, keeperoftheearth! I'll have to try and get some pictures, too... these guys sure come in some nice colors!

I am SO in love with that third drake (the one with the white around his eyes and lighter face) he just looks soooo sweet! Love your scovies!
