Scraps and Leftovers? Oh my!

I have some old chocolate and cherry bread from Whole Foods..... is it okay to feed this to my girls?

No to chocolate the cherry is fine, but breads in very limited quantities. Generally speaking treats should not be more than 10% of total diet. This weeks Topic of the Week is what's bad for chickens. It's an interesting read.

Thank you. The bread is some exotic creation of Whole Foods.... I wont be buying it again.... and since it is a mixture of chocolate and cherry.... Ill just can it. None for the chickens!

I would not even compost it, it might attract rodents. They LOVE chocolate. Pitch it in the trash.

Yeah, as much as you'd like not to see it go to waste, breads are not the best thing to feed to chickens. Before I wised up, one year I had lots of Thanksgiving turkey stuffing left over. The chickens were more than up for helping to see it didn't go to waste. However, I experienced my first case of sour crop in my flock a couple days later.

Hi thanks for all the good advice. No more bread for my girls! I love watching them devour the last of our winter garden veggies...kale plants and escarole plants.
