Scratch and "hot chickens"

Could the "myth" have a kernel of truth? Seems to me that feeding scratch or corn could up the caloric intake, depending on how it was fed.

Think about yourself. You have had a good, nutritious, dinner and you are not hungry at all. Somebody brings over a big apple pie...
