So I bought a 25 pound bag of scratch and Peck chicken feed for my birds. The chickens seem to think it's good they eat it. But the duck's really aren't messing with it.

I told the lady there my flock is primarily ducks she said that they would like it. just want to know if anybody else experienced this.

The stuff seems to be really high quality. And does not require any additional niacin supplement.

I have that exact feed that I thought I'd try out for my ducks. My ducks are very disinterested in it and seem to definately prefer their normal crumble food. They do eat it, but definately aren't as excited about eating as when they get their normal food. Maybe ducks are just picky! lol

Can anybody tell me what scratch is? I have heard it is a treat for chickens. Should I give it to my ducks? Also I heard it is not for a whole nutrition so other food needs to be given with this as a treat. Sorry....I don't want to interrupt your conversation just would love to know more about this. When I find out more about this I might be able to help you out!

Can you be more specific I don't even know what you're talking about scratch can mean many things? Or maybe I'm clueless about this subject as well

No problem: when I looked up the word scratch for chickens it said it was used for a treat not a regular food choice(if that makes since). I was just wandering if scratch and feed are the same thing and/or it needs to be given to ducks. I am so sorry for taking over your thread and will just turn it into a new thread if I need more info on the subject. Thanks for the help!

Hello...With that Sratch and peck feed you can mix it with crumble to encourage them to eat it.
One the topic of scratch grains many have lots of corn so for Ducks I mix in Old style scratch which has less corn and Oat and barley crumbles to my feed.
Chickens don't need the scratch. Ducks can also eat wild bird seed. Cracked wheat is also healthy...Veggies daily if forage is low.

@happy duck I just wanted to mention that "scratch and peck" is a specific brand of feed, not to be confused with just "scratch" or "scratch grains" which are generic terms for a variety of mixed grains and corn which are often fed to chickens as a snack or supplement to their regular feed.

So it's like a supliment!? Cool thanks a lot...now you can get back to your regular conversation!
