(1) Are you new to chickens / when did you first get chickens?
Well, we started 4 years ago with a week-old Rhode Island Red ("Honey") for my granddaughter from the state college poultry enterprise community exhibit and a two-week old Plymouth Barred-Rock ("Dottie") for my grandson from the local feed and pet supply. When the kids relocated 2 years ago, they took the hens and I was an "empty-nester" until retirement.
(2) How many chickens do you have right now?
Baby chicks are so adorable! When I retired I moved closer to the kids and, true to my word, we went to browse the new spring chicks at the farm supply barn and I came home with 6 babies in April. My girls grew up happy and are laying delicious eggs; more than enough to share!

(3) What breeds do you have?
2 Rhode Island Reds ("Dolly & Nelda"), 1 Buff Orpington ("Goldie"), 1 Golden sex-linked ("Song"), 1 Amerucana ("Lily") and 1 Plymouth Barred-Rock ("Checkers")

(4) How did you find out about BackYardChickens.com?
From a friend who rents a cottage from a rural poultry rancher who introduced me to the joys of owning hens as pets.

(5) What are some of your other hobbies? Reading, movies, swimming, and keeping company with my grandkids!

(6) Tell us about your family, your other pets, your occupation, or anything else you'd like to share.
I'm a retired critical care RN, educator and public health policy specialist, with two rescued shelter dogs: Portia the Boxer and Stella the Yorkish Terrier. We share our home with Butterscotch "Butters" the Mini Holland Lop, and friends or family who happen by looking for a few good eggs.
