Scratch and pellets

I’m sorry in advance if this is a stupid question or possibly has already been answered out there but, I just started with scratch grains and pretty much also started the layer pellets. Do you combine the two into their feed bowls or keep them separated? Thanks everyone.

In my experience it is best to keep them separated as they will search through the mix for favorites scattering the rest on the ground.

I agree. Don't mix scratch with feed; use it for a fun diversion on occasion or as a reward for training desired behaviors.

A lot depends. Are they still in lay or molting? What temperatures are the birds facing? Are they able to access forages, especially quality forages? Answers I have vary even for me as a function of season. If the birds are penned under relatively benign conditions and in heavy lay, then the layer pellets alone should suffice and you can be stingy with scratch grains.
