scratch block?

I'm thinking about giving my chickens a flock block or scratch block but I've never fed one does anyone have any experience-input on the subject? Is it better than just throwing out scratch? Any feedback is appreciated

I like a flock block because I can put it out and forget about about it. Seems like there is less waste as well. Of course I see a lot of birds (sparrows, etc) on it for a free lunch as well.

For some reason the flock block we buy is very solid and hard for the flock to get to. If we chisel it a little it will break apart and my flock goes nuts over it. It is like feeding them cooked steak/pork and they inhale it until its gone. We chisel a little at a time, but I think this year we will find a different brand. I put the flock block out for winter.

What brand did you buy? I saw one at our local Tractor Supply and wondered if it was something good to buy. I was kinda afraid it would all crumble and go to waste.
