I've search on here under every kind of key words I can think of and I can't seem to find a homemade recipe for scratch.

I have found post that give basic things that can be put into scratch (cracked corn, whole oats, wheat, milo, flaxseeds, barley), but not a specific recipe. I may be missing something, but I would love to here from those of you that make up your own scratch. Are there other things that would be benefical to add for the chickens health?

I need ingredients and amounts used for each ingredient. I can always double or triple the recipe according to my flock.

Thanks

Here is a basic "Scratch Grain" recipe. I have used this mixture for some time.
This mix should come out to 10.9% Protein and 7.8% Fat
Wheat.................................... 45 Lbs
Cracked Corn......................... 20 Lbs
Clipped (race horse) Oats........ 15 Lbs
Black Oiled Sunflower Seed... 10 Lbs
Safflower Seed...................... 10 Lbs

You can all so try this
This mix should come out to 10% Protein and 5.1% Fat
Wheat................................... 45 Lbs
Cracked Corn........................ 25 Lbs
Clipped (race horse) Oats..... 20 Lbs
Black Oiled Sunflower Seed... 10 Lbs

My homemade scratch is pretty simple: one part whole oats, one part whole wheat and about one-fifth a part of black oil sunflower seeds. That's for hot weather. In the winter I'll include some corn. Scratch is not their primary source of nutrition - it's a treat to fill their crops before bed and to lure them into their run along toward evening. They like it and it doesn't make them fat.

I also didn't know what scratch was. Can you buy this already made up in a bag? Not sure where I would find all those ingredients sold separately.

Thanks,
Sandy

Yes you can buy pre made Scratch at just about any Feed or farm supply store.

There is no harm or problems with feeding Scratch with corn in it in the Summer time. It will not make your chickens too hot, that is a myth.
