my sister has a buff chicken/rooster? we thought at first it was a hen, got her from a friend in missori,. one day 'she' started to crow and had grown spurs ok- chicken farmer says rooster. now after about 4 months he/she is cackling and sitting on eggs. already wouldn't get of nest and stayed by itself with no interaction with other hens.
has anyone ever heard of this? this is the only buff she has. thanks guys

Sounds like you have a broody hen. When a hen sits on eggs and doesn't want to leave, she is broody - meaning she wants to hatch out chicks. If you don't have a rooster, she will be wasting her time.- as the eggs will be infertile. If you could buy fertile eggs(of any breed) you could swap our hers and put the fertile ones under her. She would hatch them and raise them as her own.

As to the rooster bit, some hens do crow and they can also have spurs tho usually not as large as a rooster. Sometimes a hen takes over crowing when here is no rooster around.

Hello :frow and Welcome To BYC! X2, sounds like a broody hen, if there is no rooster some hens will crow and act like a rooster, some hens grow spurs also.

Welcome to BYC!

X3 sounds like she is broody, and yes, some hens can crow. They can even grow sprurs. Many times this happens when there is no rooster in the flock.

Enjoy all your poultry adventures and welcome to our flock!
