I took my chicken to the vet last week that has been screaming bloody murder. Found out she has lice, arthritis, and might be reacting to the new baby chicks. They doctor gave us medicine but told us she is getting up there and if this doesnt work we might have to put her down. Ive given her medicine for the past few days and have tried to take care of the lice with the doctors advice. She isnt any better and is getting worse. What do I do? She's skinnier than the other chickens and I know she's getting up there she's about 6. What do I do?

Yeah. She isnt getting any better and I've done everything the doctor says.

Typical life expectancy for a chicken is 4-7 years. I would keep doing the treatments that the vet suggested and if she doesn't get better, I would find a way to gently put her down. Sometimes as their caretakers we have to make that hard decision. The only way to make sure you never have to make that decision is to never have animals and life would be poorer for it IMO. So sorry that your hen is not doing well.

Thank you. It's driving us up the wall and Ive had a migraine for the past 2 weeks. I think I have to take her in to the vet later.

Sorry that your hen is gone now.

It sounds like you did everything you could for her. I am sure she had a wonderful life. I agree with chicmom, you sound like a good chicken mama
