My girls got up early yesterday so I let them out of their run to forage in our yard. I was just watching them scratch around when I heard the shrill call of a screech owl. It was cool to see them stop, stand up tall, sound the alert, and cock their heads as they waited for the next calls to come. I know the girls hear them at night because I often do, when I'm putting them up at dusk. This might have been their first daylight encounter, and I'm glad I was there to witness it!
