Since he has so much going on maybe he would let you and your pastor have them now. He obviously doesn't care about them at all if he was planning to leave them behind.

It couldn't be too bad of a conversation to say:
"Hey, you have so many things happening right now and you work all the time. We noticed the birds need more care. We'd be happy to take them off your hands so you have one less thing to deal with."

If he has all that going on, he should've found them new homes. I am sure that if he had said what was going on and why he wanted to get rid of them, then people would've jumped at the chance to get them.

If this was near the DFW area in Texas, I would jump at the opportunity to help rehome those poor animals.
