Screeching.while laying eggss

Hi all. This morning I noticed that my RIR started screeching loudly when she sat in the nest box. I wonder if she's in pain. She has also been a little more aggressive and doesnt leave the coop when I open the door to free range in the afternoon. Any ideas what can be wrong with her??

That "screeching" is called the "egg song" ... does it sound like this?

It's just her way of saying " Hey!! I just laid an egg!!" Best of luck to you!!

no lol. not the egg song. as soon as she sat down there was a long screech about every 15 seconds.

It sounded exactly like this but a little longer and louder.

My bad...thought it was the 'egg song' from your OP....viewed that video clip and I take it the video is not of your hen... to me in that video that hen had such an intense look about her and every time her owner went to pet her she made that sound....to me? That hen was trying to go broody on her. That, or she was just having a little trouble laying the egg....dunno...just thinkin'.

no that vid is not of my hen but she does make that sound. I wasnt touching her..in fact I was standing about 8 ft away....

Sounds like your hen may be going broody! That's what mine does...couple days later she is sitting in her nest, body spread out like a pancake and won't move!!! I was worried it was an egg laying problem until I saw the pattern!

It kind of sounds like broodiness to me, too @calichicken ... I hope the OP will keep us updated!!
