Screen window - I need your ideas Please!

why not just ad a push rod to the inside of the coop it would fit in between the holes in the hardware cloth

or

you may be able to find a crank handle that would work from the inside too

If you used a thin metal rod you wouldn't have to cut the screen. You would get the strength you need but the metal would have a small enough diameter to fit right through the hardware cloth.

You should hear all the weird stuff I have been tossing out there......

One was triangle wood pieces on hinges.....mounted between the screen and shutter... but we can not figure out how to push them out to hold the shutter open...

Hi, When I saw your delima....I thought " push rod rom inside" instantly. then I read other replys to your situation and many have the same idea. It is simple....no ropes, no pulleys......a simple little piece of 1/2" flat bar sold in the metal section of at any Lowes or HD. Drill a hole in one end...get a little small L bracked...Mount the L bracket to center of bottom of sash(shutter). Attach the flat bar to L bracket with small bolt and nut, don't overtighten. Pass thru the hardware cloth....hey, if ya gotta snip a wir or to to get the bar thru...so what. Pull window closed with flat bar. Mark flat bar where it meets inside window frame or rough opening. Take file or jig saw with metal blade....make a notch at mark. take the flat bar and cut off about a 4" to 5' piece, drill two holes in in and mount it in the center of opening on the frame with the metal sticking up alittle. Reattach the bar to your angle. Pull shutter closed and drop notch into small piece of metal you mounted to frame....it will keep the shutter closed. hope that makes sense and helps.

Yep. Same thing I was thinking. Cept I would get a measurement from the screen to the mounting point on the shutter. Make it just long enough to make a pivot point so that when the shutter is closed the remainder of the rod would pivot at the screen down with the wall, flush. That way it would be locked when it closed.

All good ideas.

We put real windows in our chicken house the put chicken wire on the outside so I am able to open from the inside.Look on Craigslist.org or go to a locate hardware store and see if the have any windows someone has order but has decided not to get you can get at a really good price. Hope this help

Go to a camper dealer that sells parts and look at their parts for windows, our camper windows open from the inside just like your window. To open the window all you do is crank the handle one way to open it, and the other way to close it. From the way our windows look it would be simple to adapt it to your window, Or another idea would be to find a complete window out of a camper and remove your current window mesh and all and install the camper window in its place.

Lateral thinker here

:

1. You could move the hot wire a little further away from the coop in the area of the window.

2. Perminantly attach a pvc pipe as a puller for the window. If it bounces off the Hot wire its insulated.

3. Use Pushrod but surround pushrod hole in wire with tin.... Or wood with a hole cut in it. But seriously if you do the cutting right there should be no gaps in the wire.
