I'm a DIY'er.. I build things and I make things.. And oddly I've always wrestled with this question, specifically today when I started to make my coop.. After screwing in about 4 screws I thought.. Why not use nails... So, out of curiosity, when you built your coop which did you use, nails or screws?

Screws are easier to get something like a chicken frame together. I have found that unless you are framing in a substantial shed, nails are just too hard to drive in without knocking something off square or apart altogether.

It is more expensive to use screws though.

If you don't have a drill then nails. I use deck screws with the star bits. Easier then Phillips heads. It makes life so much easier if you need to replace anything.
Aren't those things the best ever? I always use sweet gum saplings for roosting posts and I needed relocate one. I had fastened it with the star type screws 3 1/2 " long , two in each end, and drove them to about a 1/4" below the bark.
I had put it up green, and it's been up for about a year, so I figured the chances of getting it down in shape enough to reuse was not good, but those star heads backed right out.
I really could easily relocate my coop if I needed to.

I used screws. When I make a mistake, very easy too back the screws out and reuse the wood. Removing nails I usally ruin the wood.

As the wood drys out nails have a tendentcy to back out a bit making everything loose.

I've used nail and yellow wood glue. I bought some liquid nails in a tube I'm using on the coop I'm building now. I pretty much use one nail to hold it and let the glue do the work. As far as mistakes, I make sure I'm right before I put thing together and that solves that problem.
