Scruffy looking new roo. Pot, mange, molting?

Yes, you can bathe chickens, and they tend to quickly settle down, and enjoy it.

To bathe them, you can use small to medium sized totes. I tend to use 3. Clean them out good, add warm water, not too warm, and put them in. Make it shallow enough it doesn't go over their backs, when they sit in it, but is at least half way up the bird. In the first one, add a little dishwashing liquid. (Make it like you were going to wash dishes). I let them soak for about 10 minutes, then with gloves on, gently rub the stuck on pooh off their vent area. Use a rag, or soft toothbrush, and gently clean their legs, feet, and under their toenails. Don't get it in their eyes. That water is going to get dirty, and need to be replaced for each bird. To the second tote, add a tablespoon of vinegar in the water. This will clean off the soap residue, and balance the pH. The third tote is to be plain warm water. The water in the second, and third tote can be replaced as needed.

After you finish washing your chicken, wrap it in a towel. Trim spurs, and toenails if needed. Put a bit of vaseline on the legs, combs, and wattles. Don't put too much, you don't want it greasy. Let them dry, and put them in their coop/run.

For faces, you can use a washcloth, and plain water. Don't get it into their eyes. Baby wipes work well too.

I think he goes to the pot. Scruffy dude
1. Is mean to subordinate hen
2. Doesn't correct dominant hen when she doesn't allow #2 to eat
3. Doesn't shut up from 6am to 7pm.
4. Today he didn't let his #1 hen eat. He wanted it.

=bad roo.

5. Plus all the obvious. Ugly. Let a bunch of hens tear him up. Maybe the feather loss was something else. But he's not helping social order here. And the hens have 2 weeks of fertile eggs still without his presence. So i can play with the idea of incubating if I want (pretty sure i don't want).
I'll try caging everyone separately and get everyone healthy and fed up, then try joining the flock all together.

Usually within the first couple minutes, they settle down. Mine usually don't stand longer than 3 minutes, and will sit down on their own. If not, a gentle push, and they should go down without a fight. Once down, they usually will not struggle. They settle in, and enjoy it.

Yeeeeah. I took a shower afterwards. Poor thing. She was actually a lot cleaner than i expected. And I didn't see any parasites. There was some caked on poop, that could have been nits or eggs, but it was brown and seemed like caked on poop. She wanted to go back in the run with her buddies instead of sun drying, so she's sleeping fluffy but a little damp tonight. Tomorrow's supposed to be quite warm, like today. Think she'll be fine.

I got to clean up the other hen's feet and the roo's, too. He has injuries on both feet with black scabs. One scab is pretty big and thick. It hurts him. I cleaned it but it didnt come clean yet. I put some antibiotic on it, but it's not really treated yet.
