Scruffy looking new roo. Pot, mange, molting?

That's what the red streaks make me think of, too, except that really they remind me more of a rooster who stepped in paint a month ago! It's odd looking.

I got new hay today, and i cleaned up the hen with diarrhea. The "run" I'm putting them in, in my garden, is pretty filthified (2 days) and is attracting massive amounts of flies. I was hoping they'd scratch and eat all the plants and insects under the plum tree but they've trampled and pooped on it more than they've eaten.
I threw some ashes on it this evening, and some bleachy detergent water to try to make it less attractive to the flies and kill a few germs. I think I'll have to cover it all with hay if they're going to continue in that spot. I don't really have another spot i want to sacrifice to them. Not a single regular fly has gotten caught in the 2 flytapes i put up. 2 of the things that i think are mature squash vine borer moths did, though!

Get some dried Basil, and sprinkle it in the area attracting flies. It works great, and it's ok for the chickens to eat.

I don't think the redness is infection. Roosters will often have red on the feet and legs from hormones. It can be brighter or fade, depending on the state of the hormones. They will often redden up a lot in spring and early summer as this is when they are most hormonal, but it can happen any time.
