Karen, sometimes, they just get stuff crammed in there from feed or dirt outside. I just had to scrape out my banty Cochin's nare on one side, which was completely closed up with what looked like just feed packed in there. The other side was completely clear. I have to do that with Zane from time to time, too. They can't clean out their own and I've seen folks who have had birds with a corn kernal crammed up in there and other assorted things. You just have to dig it out, which is much like trying to wipe the nose of a struggling toddler, LOL.

I had to put one of my Black Austrolorp girls in the hospital cage this morning. I think maybe she has been loved a bit too much. The BA rooster is so big. Anyway she is limping so I thought I would give her a little vacation. I hope with some rest she will be ok.

Hi everybody, I'm Robin W. I got baby Delawares From Cyn about a year ago. They are doing great.

to avoid confusion, I am Robin W. because there is another Robin.

Serrin: How is Cleo today. Glad to hear that Dr. Ross is willing to help if needed.

Karen, I took the liberty to look at your pictures. Mine get that from time to time too. It usually happens when they take a big long drink and then go diving head first into their feed. They get a crusting of the dust from their feed in the nares because they're already wet from a good drink. Often, if they don't shake it out with a quick flick of their head right away, it will tend to crust over. Then I have to go at them with a wetted cotton swab and a small pair of tweezers. But normally, they seem to take care of it themselves. By the sound of things, you do a pretty good job of addressing illnesses in your flock, so my money would be on simple dust and debris stuck in there. I'll keep my fingers crossed that this is all it is.

Do keep us posted!

Robin, thank you for asking. Cleo continues to do great! She's becoming quite the spoiled rotten little girl. She seems to think I'm her personal Princess Pillow these days. That's all well and good, until I have other things to do. Lordy! I've created a monster!

What u say Amy? Something to do other than hold Cleo? Surely you jest.

As for the nare being plugged up...yes. mine do it and shake their head, sneeze and all sorts of silly things. I have to clean them doe them every once in awhile too, usually it is dirt or food inn there, I use a cotton swap moistened with warm water squeezed out.

Serrin, thanks for looking at the pics, and Cetawin, thanks, too.

If I pick at it, she turns blue. It "feels" like distinigrating beak. I'm waiting for fishzole and penicillin. And I think I will try soaking with a rag and trying to pick more away. Tweezers won't work because it's too hard, but maybe if I soak it more.

I don't know what is wrong with me. I have been sleeping much more than normal. This is so weird. I slept nearly 12 hours, after I finally went to bed last evening. I hate wasting my time sleeping.

Good heavens Kathy! Could it be that you just plain work too hard? How long were you up before you finally went to bed????
