Ummm, Kathy? Did you enjoy your day off?

Those nest boxes look pretty cool. I need to do something for the NH's. DH is complaining that they keep tipping over their nest box. I think the roo is trying to show the girls where to lay as he is the only one I have seen it it since they quit laying.

I am getting very very tired right now. I hated to waste the (nice weather) day. I just got a phone call from work. They offered me a bonus if I would come to work tonight. hahahaha. I told them I have not been to bed yet. "Oh....! "

Good rooster, showing the girls where to lay!

I haven't been on byc much lately....been trying my best to get chickens and pens ready to start my breeding program. I have kept all my boys away from the girls for about a week to make sure that when I match the hens up, I'll get the results that I am planning on. Hopefully if all goes well I'll put pick out my best 3-4 del girls and put them with my best del roo in a day or two! I want to be collecting by this weekend for a test hatch later next week.

Other that dels, what are you all planning on hatching this year? I'll be working on Speckled Sussex as well, but won't be hatching near as many as I will my dels. I'll probably also hatch some wheaten ameraucana...but only to continue getting blue eggs. I also am planning on getting Barnevelder eggs this year to add another breed to work on...I'll probably abandon ship on speckled sussex at that point...but we'll see!

Errmmm....Stevenson? You might want to give them a couple of more weeks before you start collecting eggs. On average, it takes two to three weeks from last contact with a rooster before the girls have discharged or used up all of the sperm they were last inseminated with. And then another week with the new roo to assure fertilization. ;) Just a nickels worth of free advice.

Kathy, you're not really gonna go to work tonight, are ya?!? Gawds girl, I'd be dead on my feet after the day you've put in!

Karen! Gotcha! Etched on the old brain now! Nothing like a dose of humbling embarrassment to make one remember!

Hey, guys, wekiva bird is Robin, as well as Ewesheep, so we sometimes have two Robins on this thread.'

I will be starting my annual bator hatch on Sunday so the Hova is up and running to regulate. This hatch will include:

Barred Plymouth Rocks out of Rex and his girls, the remaining fertiles after Rex went to live at Scott's.

Belgian D'Anvers, Mille Fleur color sired by Mille Fleur and/or porcelain males, so splits and maybe, if I'm lucky and one of my Milles is already a split, a porcelain baby or two

Delawares, Ellie's eggs only. She has produced pullets in the past most of the time, no dwarfs that I know of.

....and the mixed breeds-some Delaweggers out of June and Isaac, barred EEs from Maretta out of Rex, some D'Anver x Lav Cochin and some Blue Orp x Buff Orp from both Nugget and Hope. Grace still isn't laying and Meg and Dusty quit awhile back.

I plan to keep only a couple of BR pullets and some D'Anver pullets. The rest will be sold or go to live with LH in KY, if she wants some more Suedelettes. She doesn't have any of Nugget's babies and neither do I.

Oh Serrin, don't even think about it. You have enough to think about with your poor hen!

Thanks for the info. This coming weekend will be about 2 weeks apart from the roos. I suppose I can put the "team"

together in the breeding pen and wait another couple weeks to start collecting eggs for hatching. I am not in a huge hurry except that I want to try to hatch as many delawares as possible this year.
