Well I've candled all the eggs. Of the GA eggs 10 seem to be ok, but you can never tell about these things. That leaves 27. I'm not disappointed, but will be if the GA eggs don't hatch.

The news today said gas prices are going to hit over $5. Help me Jesus. I worry about the feed prices. I suppose I wouldn't mind so much if these girls would lay. I probably shouldn't complain as they about 50%. With the exception of the 10 BR's and 2 SLW. ONE egg! I've decided to try and experiment with Dumor and Agway feeds. The Dels will get Dumor and the Orps and mix will get Agway Egg Producer. I'll start tomorrow and keep track of what happens.

It is sad about Whitney Houston.

We're finally getting some snow here. Not much, but the weather man makes it sound like a storm. Heavens to Betsy, last year we got buried. You can't really call it shoveling since you just push it out of the way. I don't even bother going to the coop. I just plow through with my little red wagon.

Cyn - it never occurred to me to put anything around my bantam eggs. I just put them in like the rest. The only problem I have is they hatch earlier.

27 degrees last night here near Tampa! Yesterday afternoon I went out to give the 11 week olds some food and water and I hit the heat lamp and broke it. Hmmm, thank gawd I had another bulb! THEN later on that night, I have four 3 week old chicks on my dining room table with a heat lamp, they were huddling and chirping loud non stop, so I lowered the lamp. 10 minutes later they were chirping loud nonstop, -the bulb died!!!!. Thank gawd I had a replacement for that!

Dang Karen! For you, that is really cold!! If I were you, I think I'd run out to the feed store today and pick up a few more heat bulbs! You're having some terrible luck with those, by the sound of things. Hope nothing else goes wrong.

Ummmm plans well none actually I am not the one in school ahem am I? I do believe DH is in school and Cheyenne is in school and a friend of mine is in school but I am just hanging around the computer and doodling, editing photos proof reading and such but not 'technically' in school. Good lord I have 5 or 6 associates degrees, my BA, my JD and a Masters in secondary education and I believe that is enough for me.

CYNTHIA NOW HEAR THIS I TRY TO GIVE YOU MONEY INSTEAD I AM FORCED TO HIDE IT IN THE HOUSE AND FORGET WHERE I HID IT. CHARGE ME FOR BABIES AND TAKE THE CASH!!!!

Oh, my, Karen, the drama!

I opened up the Barred Rock coop and let the main flock out with them. I sat in a lawn chair to supervise and break up any bloody fights. Maretta, the 1/2 Ameraucana EE, Gloria Jean, the splash Rock, and Dottie hung around the back of the garden, away from everyone. Wynette and Ida came out briefly, were flirted with by Isaac, then went in and each got on a nest and stayed.

Isaac then saw Maretta. Uh-oh. She looks almost exactly like his favorite girl, June, who he roosts beside every night. He dropped his head and his wings and took off after her. She was horrified at the big white rooster chasing her so she was bobbing and weaving among all the strange hens. She veered toward me where I was sitting in my chair, so I held out my arms, called "Maretta!" and she launched herself from five feet away straight into my arms, hit my shoulder, almost overshot me, LOL. Now, this is a girl who is a tad skittish, doesn't let me pet her unless she is on a nest or on the roost at night, but boy, she knew safety when she saw it!

She snuggled down in my arms, closed her eyes and chattered away, telling me all about her narrow escape from roosterly love.

LH, I never found that money. Maybe one day it will fall out of its hiding place, LOL. Let's just see how many babies I get for you. You never know what will happen with a hatch. I have 16 D'Anvers and 5 Shadows plus 5 Maretta eggs in there. Should be some pretty babies for you.

Cynthia, it's so hysterical when you watch them! I love the ones that dive bomb for your lap or shoulder to avoid the roo, LOL. My Polish have done that several times. Not so dramatic tho.

What kind of chickens are Isaac and Maretta? I may know butt..............middle age half memory.

Serrin, I do have backups, always afraid that'll happen. And 5 fans for the summer, LOL.

Isaac is my big Delaware rooster, who leads the main flock. Maretta is 1/2 Blue Wheaten Ameraucana and 1/2 Easter Egger, hence, she's an EE. I'm going to be combining those two flocks and this was their first day out together. I'm going to wait till the next snow event tonight and tomorrow to make them stay overnight in the main coop, though, since I know there will be fighting and I'd rather they not have to be locked in together like that all day.

What, Tim???? No seat-belts on the itty bitty eggs? For shame....

I hope your news about the gas price is wrong. Good grief........

Ahhh they were just Silky eggs. Nothing important.

It's not like they're a Delaware egg or anthing.

If the gas prices do get that high, leave the light on and a horse blanket in the barn so I have a place to lay over when I hitch hike to Alabama to see my Grand Kids.

I wonder how many miles I can get in one of those motorized wheel chairs? When I was working I saw a guy with his going home and he had a blonde sitting on his lap.

Not sure DW will go for that. She'll probably want her own wheels. Oh the things we mailmen see.
