I was just thinking..........

I think it was fate. It was fate that Floozy died. I would have never even considered selling her or Oliver. They were my best Delaware pair. I had two phone calls today about chickens. Now, that is odd, too. Two, in one day? Weird. One was from a lady that got a batch of my black and barred F2s last October. She has a relative coming to town next week that wants a few chickens. I think I will sell her my pen of Delawares. I have one Oliver son, that is not so great. I will sell him with the girls left in Floozy's old pen. I don't need them anymore.

Oliver though..... gosh...... To this day, I still miss having Jacob around. He was another special Delaware. Special in many ways, but with that dang dwarfing gene. I'm getting sentimental, and I don't need to be doing that...... Oliver will go.

Well, that will open up another pen. I always seem to need pens open, and now I suddenly have 3 open, with more that I could open, by relocating a few.

I did move George #2 and the F1 girls into a pen today. I think I can sell some F2 eggs. They do produce a nice variety of colors, for sure. And, if anyone wants to make some Delawares, they could be a year ahead on such a project. Yeah, that makes sense.

Don't make decisions like this Kathy on the heels of a loss...trust me. Fine yourself a couple.of.days. sorry of.there are typos but I am on a treadmill at the moment lol. But you know what I mean. :)

Yea, Kathy, wait a few days, even a week. I did that once, it was my only regret as far as rehoming goes. And my husband agrees. I had to rehome 4 roos. 1 died, 1 (my favorite) went next door, two went to a guy who loves roos. I wish I still had them. Not to mention-they were from your flock!!! JG's

Sorry , again, about your Floozy.

Kathy, I agree, please wait at least a week before making that decision. I was ready to get rid of all the chickens just a couple of weeks ago. That was when I was on the prednisone too.

Afternoon all

Kathy - sorry you too have experience a loss. Crazy year this has been. Got home from Charlotte, NC yesterday and my "blue girl" is GONE....simply gone! No sign of a hawk attack, no feathers scattered about....just gone. Colby said she was there when he let them out before school, so who knows. Coyote? Fox? Neighbor dog? IDK

UPDATE - Rex is MUCH better. Comb is finally back to normal color and I have put him back with 3 of his girls. He's not "energetically" chasing them around just yet, but seems to be doing much better. Actually ate almost 1/2 a PBJ sandwich from me a little while ago.

Looks like "storms a brewin" here again tonite. 75F here now and storms expected this evening....hopefully nothing severe.

I'm headed to meet Joe Emenheiser tomorrow just north of Knoxville. He is giving me 2 pullets that are a "Cobb broiler" x "Shafer BR". Says they are huge and have great chests on them.....hoping to use them to further along my CRs, especially the males. I'm giving him a Blue cockerel and one of my 'black girls" that is a result of a Wheeler BR (Wynette has her now) and my CR male.....very, very typey. He's using them to further a BBS rock "project" he is working on

Hope everyone is well....stay dry

Just got this and had to share....with "all y'all"

Kathy,

I am so sorry to hear about Floozy. She was a great character and her antics will be greatly missed.

I know exactly how you feel. When my Orps were killed, I cried, and felt like a crazy person for doing it. I gathered up all the eggs, and placed them in the incubator. I hatched out some really beautiful Orps. But it wasn't the same. My wounds were still raw, and every time I looked at them I was sad. So I sold them to someone who REALLY appreciated them for what they were. I hope to have more someday, when that sadness leaves.
