Hi. Gosh, Cyn, I love your choice of colors! Can't wait to see it finished.
Rancher, sorry I don't live near your flogging rooster. I've turned quite a few around with the "stalking method". The only one I didn't was a D'Uccle. You can't back away from him, you just keep walking at him, making him move, move , move, and practice that everyday as much as you can. The thought being that you are alpha roo, therefore, you dictate where the flogger can go and will go, and keep going . That's rooster talk for "I'm the boss or I'll make you wish I was the boss". I don't like fear from them, I want respect, and my last 2 have actually become very friendly.
Cetawin, how did you make that waterer? It looks really cool, it must work well.
Well with the first huge rain yesterday, I had some wet chickens. The only way to provide shelter for everyone was to have 2 flocks and like Cynthia, alternate free ranging. So I have Clarence my BO in with the 5 newer girls now that they are older. Hopefully he'll leave the 3 Polish alone till I finish their new home. But he's not a pushy rooster. I've seen him walk away from quite a few hens because they weren't interested. Then he just stands with the hens and forages.
Which brings me to Peepacheep. I was really suprised to find out that my Polish do better in a large pen. They really don't care to free range. I had free ranged them for 3 years, and they hid all the time. Then I put them in a real nice pen, and they are now relaxed, take dust baths, eat alot, and lay a whole lot of eggs-at the age of 4, from 3 hens,I am getting about 14 eggs a week, 3 every other day.
I know they are not Dellies, but they certainly love the pen.
Rancher, a new baby???? Details?
