Did you all hear about Mary's (The Sheriff) miracle? HERE.

That's pretty neat, I too have saved a couple of little bitties before that had jumped up into the big chickens waterer and were right on the brink of deaths door, by placing them in the toaster oven. Now that sure gets me some strange looks at first when I pull such a shenanigan around the house. LOL but they all like it when it turns out for the good though.

Holy SMOKIES!! That's just amazing!

And three cheers for the wee babe!! Let's just hope that it doesn't turn out to be a roo! Or, if it does, it turns out to be the best dang roo she ever hatched! Great story, Kathy. Thanks for sharing it with us.

That's an incredable story! On video too. Yes the chick looked deader than dead. I'm glad she could save him.

I have a question and listening to all of you, I'm sure I'm asking the right people. My rooster, Clarence, is wasting away. He's bony, his pupils are mishapen, and he went from active to listless. This morning I went out there with bread, and he never came out of the coop, he was on the roost. He finally did come out, but just stood there. (Marek's).

How do you decide if they are better off departing on their own or being helped? I just don't know what chickens prefer. I'm asking because I just don't want to do the deed. How do you decide?

Well I gave him a hug and a piece of bread, and off to work I go. He actually came over and sat with me for a while. He's never been the type to do that.

He's making a death rattle. So sad. And I think he wants to die on his own. That's the feeling I got.

So sad.

Marek's, to the best of my knowledge, Karen, is not a respiratory ailment. It usually attacks the central nervous system and typically will cause paralysis in the legs and feet. With some strains of Marek's, there may even be blindness, though I don't know if it causes the pupils to become distorted. The "death rattle" as you call it could be IB [infectious bronchitis] and if this is the case, you need to isolate him from the rest of the flock as soon as possible. As the name implies, it is highly contagious!

How old is your boy? Are there any other symptoms besides listlessness, lack of appetite and the sounds of respiratory congestion? Let us know. When we all put our heads together, we can, and often do, come up with an answer!

That's it, dagnabbit!!! I want a pair of emu's!! I don't give a hoot nor a holler what Denny wants to say about it! Those little goobers are just too cute for words! I WANT a PAIR!!!
